The Community Wide Trail System Project is a series of greenway walking/bicycling trails throughout the community. The trail system would focus on linking four primary destinations: Downtown Kennesaw, Legacy Park and surrounding residential areas, Kennesaw State University, and Kennesaw Mountain High School.
These four primary destinations would be linked through a series of greenspaces including areas along streams, utility easements and undeveloped land. The series of envisioned trails would eventually be connected to other regional trails and destinations including the Noonday Creek Trail, Silver Comet Trail, Kennesaw Mountain, and Lake Allatoona. The highest priority trails identified in the Spring of 2004 included:
The trail will be developed in phases. The initial phase of the trail will be partially funded by a grant received from the Department of Natural Resources Parks and Historic Sites Division Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). This trail will travel along Proctor Creek, passing through three neighborhood parks, and will eventually connect to existing sidewalks from the center of downtown Kennesaw to the northwest corner of the City, ending just across from one of the City’s largest residential developments, Legacy Park.
The trail system will include small picnic pavilions, bridges, hard surface multi-purpose trails, soft surface trails, parking for approximately 10 cars, and signage.
