The Kennesaw Environmental Committee's works to empower Kennesaw residents to be responsible stewards of our natural resources through environmental education and awareness programs; reduction of litter and landfill fees through recycling initiatives; safeguarding public trees, streambanks and greenspaces; and volunteer activities.
The Committee meets at 6:00 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month in the Kennesaw City Hall conference room.
Members of the Environmental Committee are appointed by the Kennesaw Mayor and Council and serve two year terms.
The Environmental Committee's coordinates city-wide activities such as: Recycling at the annual Big Shanty Festival in April; Tree Planting and creation of the Children's Forest at Swift-Cantrell Park; Arbor Day Celebration in February; the Cans for Cash Challenge in October, promoted by the U.S. Council of Mayors and Keep America Beautiful - a national competition to collect the most aluminum cans.
Environmental efforts promoted by the Environmental Committee include: recycling efforts, water conservation, city beautification, tree planting, litter pickup and river and stream conservation and cleanup.
The committee is also overseeing revisions to the City's tree ordinance and is working toward making Kennesaw a "Tree City USA".
The Environmental Committee publishes monthly Eco-Tips and a blog.
