National Night Out Focuses on Crime Prevention

June 24th, 2017 by Pam Davis

On Tuesday, August 1, neighborhoods throughout the City of Kennesaw are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 33rd annual National Night Out (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and supported in part by national corporate sponsor Target. Local sponsors include the Kennesaw Police Department and the Barrett Parkway Target. The NNO event will involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world.

From 7 – 10 pm, residents in neighborhoods throughout the city are asked to lock their doors, turn on outdoor lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and friends. Many neighborhoods host a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, flashlight walks, youth activities, and anti-crime rallies. This year, the Kennesaw Police Department will have several public safety vehicles on display at Swift-Cantrell Park located at 3140 Old Highway 41 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Crime prevention information for adults and special handouts for kids will be distributed while supplies last.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
