Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival Now Accepting Contest Entries

Experienced pitmasters and backyard amateurs are invited to compete in several contests that will take place on Friday and Saturday, August 25-26, during the City of Kennesaw’s 2017 Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival.

The professional contest is a Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned and Georgia State Championship event. Cook teams will be judged and scored in four meat categories: chicken, pork ribs, pork butt, and brisket. The $295 entry fee includes a 20′ x 27′ outdoor cooking space, a 20 amp electrical connection, and access to potable water. Over $16,000 in cash will be awarded to contest winners, in addition to artisan handcrafted pottery trophies and other valuable prizes.

The backyard contest is an amateur cook-off event. Teams will compete in the same meat categories as above, with the exception of brisket. The $150 entry fee includes a 20′ x 10′ outdoor cooking space, access to electricity and water.

Ancillary events include an “Anything Butt” and peach dessert contest. Each have an entry fee of $30.

Youth ages 7-15 will have an opportunity to showcase their grilling skills during a Kids’ Que Cook-off event. The program consists of two parts—a three-hour workshop on Saturday, July 22 focusing on nutrition, food preparation and cooking techniques; followed by an amateur cook-off to be held on Friday, August 25 during the festival. The $35 entry fee includes participation in the workshop, a cooking space for the cook-off, use of a grill, charcoal and ground turkey, and other cooking supplies. A parent or adult partner is required to attend the workshop and cook-off with their child.

For additional fees, cook teams can upgrade to a larger space, increased amperage, and opportunities to vend at the festival which is expected to attract over 65,000 attendees to Kennesaw’s Adams Park.
