public safety facility
The City of Kennesaw has officially broken ground on a new 25,000-square-foot Public Safety Facility, a major investment in the future of public safety. This $15.62 million project will bring all Kennesaw Police Department (KPD) operations under one roof, replacing outdated facilities and providing modern resources to better serve the community.
The new facility will feature a Real-Time Crime Center, a community meeting room, a fitness center, a virtual training room and dedicated spaces for K-9 operations, a crime lab, and an armory. These enhancements will improve response times, officer readiness and community engagement.
With construction expected to take 15 months, this state-of-the-art facility marks a significant step forward in ensuring KPD has the tools and infrastructure needed to protect and serve Kennesaw for years to come.
Recently Completed Projects
amphitheater at depot park
The United Bankshares Amphitheater at Depot Park is Kennesaw’s premier outdoor venue, offering a versatile space for concerts, festivals and community events. Opened in June 2024, the amphitheater features a 50 x 42 ft stage with a fully equipped back-of-house area and a turf lawn.
The Kennesaw Concert Series debuted at the venue in 2024 and will continue in 2025, bringing live music and entertainment to the community. The amphitheater also hosts signature annual events, including Salute to America and A Day with Santa.
Located in the heart of Depot Park, the amphitheater sits across from the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History and is surrounded by park amenities such as the historic Train Depot, the Community House, walking trails, and the Tunnel Outdoor Classroom. The venue enhances Kennesaw’s cultural and entertainment offerings, providing a dynamic space for residents and visitors to gather and celebrate.
2022 SPLOST
On January 1, 2022, the City of Kennesaw, through Cobb County, started to collect the one-cent tax, which will end on December 31, 2027. As before, the City identified certain projects in an effort to improve the quality of life for our residents and business owners. This is why a large portion of SPLOST revenue goes towards Parks & Recreation and Public Works projects.
2016 SPLOST
The 2016 SPLOST Book outlines the County’s overall program, as adopted by the Board of Commissioners on July 22, 2014. It briefly describes the purpose of each capital improvement and the anticipated corresponding funding. The 2016 SPLOST addressed the immediate needs of Facilities, Technology, Parks, Libraries, Senior Centers, Public Safety, and Transportation that affect the future of Cobb County. The SPLOST was in effect for a six (6) year period from January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2021.
2011 SPLOST
The 2011 SPLOST Book outlines the County’s overall program, as adopted by the Board of Commissioners on December 14, 2010. It briefly describes the purpose of each capital improvement and corresponding anticipated funds. The 2011 SPLOST addressed the immediate needs of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, Transportation, Facilities (Libraries, Senior Services, Judicial and Public Health) and Public Safety that affect the future of Cobb County. The SPLOST was in effect for a four (4) year period from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2015.
