The state of Georgia chartered the Western & Atlantic Railroad in 1836, and the line remains an essential part of north Georgia. As the backbone of the region’s industry, Atlanta would not be the city that it is today without the Western & Atlantic. Learn more about the history and significance of the railroad, including its role in the Great Locomotive Chase, on an informative bus tour along part of the route. Led by author and railroad scholar Todd DeFeo, stops on the tour include Cooper’s Furnace, Cartersville, Kingston, Dalton, and Ringgold. The bus will depart from the Southern Museum, and a box lunch will be provided. Availability is limited. Purchase your tickets online today: $50 for members and $65 for non-members.
