Winter Break at the Southern Museum – Celebrating African Americans in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

Join us for an exciting Winter Break program at the Southern Museum, where we’ll celebrate the remarkable contributions of African Americans in STEM fields through engaging activities and crafts.

On February 18, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, explore the achievements of Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, and Dorothy Vaughan with “Seeing Stars,” a space-themed craft highlighting their vital roles in science, math and engineering.

On February 19, drop in for “Stop and Go” and discover the innovative spirit of Garrett Morgan through interactive activities focused on electricity and traffic signals.

February 20, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, features a special “Mommy and Me” program, “Sew Much Fun.” Smith-Gilbert Gardens will join us for an art project inspired by Harriet Powers, celebrating her story and the sense of community she created.

Finally, on February 21, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, investigate the “Creation of Couplers” with hands-on activities led by the Museum’s Special Collections Team, exploring the invention of the Jenny Coupler.
